About Prize Comparison

Why This Site Exists

The UK prize competition industry has exploded in the past five years. Operators like BOTB, Omaze, Elite Competitions and dozens of others now run thousands of draws every month, with prizes ranging from £10 instant wins to £4 million houses.

But when I went looking for a comparison site I could trust — somewhere that would tell me straight which operators were legitimate, which had good track records, and which to avoid — I couldn't find one. Every "best UK competition sites" list I came across was either pay-to-play, hopelessly outdated, or written by someone who'd never actually entered a competition in their life.

So I built Prize Comparison to be the site I wished existed: independent, transparent, and accountable to a published scoring methodology that anyone can scrutinise.

Who Runs This Site

Prize Comparison is run by me, Finley Southon. I'm a UK student at the Univeristy of Bristol, studying business with innovation and building alongside my studies .

I'm not a professional gambling journalist or a longtime industry insider. I'm someone who got curious about which UK competition sites were actually trustworthy, started researching properly, and ended up with so much data and so many opinions that putting them online felt like the natural thing to do.

I personally enter competitions on most of the operators I rank. Not because I expect to win anything meaningful — the odds make that unlikely — but because I think anyone reviewing this industry should actually be a customer of it. You can't honestly assess whether free entry routes work, whether customer support replies, or whether a site's user experience is any good without using it yourself.

What Makes Prize Comparison Different

Three things, mostly.

Transparent scoring

Our rankings aren't editorial opinion dressed up as authority. Every operator gets a Quality Score out of 100 (broken into five components) and a Popularity Score out of 100. The final ranking combines both with a published 60/40 weighting. The full breakdown is on our methodology page.

If you disagree with where an operator sits in our rankings, you can point to a specific component score and argue the case. That's the point.

Independent of operators

We earn commission from some affiliate relationships — primarily with BOTB through their Confido programme, and others over time. These relationships do not influence rankings or scores. We rank operators with no affiliate relationship by the same methodology, and we'll publish critical reviews of affiliate partners when warranted. Our affiliate disclosure sets this out in full.

Updated, not abandoned

Most "best UK competition sites" lists I found during my research were last updated in 2022 or 2023. Some still recommended operators that had closed down. We refresh our scoring data quarterly, and update individual reviews when something material changes — a corporate acquisition, a regulatory action, or a notable controversy.

What I Look For in an Operator

Beyond the methodology, here's the rough hierarchy of what matters when I'm assessing a UK competition site:

  1. Will winners actually be paid? Trust comes before anything else. Public track records, transparent draw mechanics, and verifiable winner stories.
  2. Is the free entry route real? UK law requires it. Many operators bury it. The ones that make it accessible deserve credit.
  3. Are the prizes worth the entry cost? Some operators offer brilliant value. Others charge premium prices for low-value prizes. The maths matters.
  4. Is customer support reachable? A working email address and reasonable response times signal a legitimately run business.
  5. Has scale built trust over time? Operators with 20,000+ Trustpilot reviews and 5+ years of operating history have proven more than newer entrants.

What This Site Isn't

For honesty's sake, here's what Prize Comparison is not:

  • Not a competition operator. We don't run draws, sell tickets, or hold prize funds.
  • Not affiliated with any single operator. Despite our BOTB partnership, we operate independently and rank competitors honestly.
  • Not gambling advice. UK prize competitions sit in a legal grey area — technically prize draws rather than gambling — but they share many of the same risks. Only spend what you can afford to lose.
  • Not infallible. Our scores are based on the best available data, but we miss things. If you spot an error, please tell us.

The Business Behind the Site

Prize Comparison is operated by Prizecomparison Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (Company Number: 17035770), registered office: Shernden Manor, Shernden Lane, Edenbridge, Kent, TN8 5PS.

The site is privately owned and self-funded. No outside investors. No marketing agencies. Just one person trying to build something useful.

Responsible Play

Prize competitions are entertainment, not investments. If competition spending stops being fun for you, please:

  • Visit BeGambleAware.org for free, confidential help
  • Call the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133
  • Use the spending limits and self-exclusion tools that legitimate operators provide

This is genuinely important. If a site reviewing the prize competition industry doesn't put this front and centre, they're not being honest with their readers.
